Hello, friends! I’m stopping by to say I’m alive and kicking. I appreciate all the well-wishes I received via texts and emails and sweet comments on twitter and IG. If you follow me over there then you’ve had a peek into what we are up to: not a whole lot. Mostly snuggling, feeding, and doing things as a family of the sitting-down nature. I am slowly recovering.
You may have noticed that I had Elias a day earlier than planned. You did not have your dates mixed up, as many people who texted me thought! My c-section was scheduled for the morning of the 26th, but I ended up going into labor on the night of the 24th. It started around 11 pm, and of course everyone asleep by then, and so once I realized I was really really in labor for real I couldn’t even tell anyone. I was excited but resolved to let Anthony sleep as much as possible and only wake him when it was necessary to go to the hospital. I stayed up all night, buoyed by excitement and labor pains, watching a season of 30 Rock and pacing the living room. After waking everyone up and seeing Isobel settled with my mother we left for the hospital, and I endured another really-not-fun freeway ride to the town with the hospital where Isobel was, and Elias would be, born.
A c-section is really not fun, just as labor is not fun, either. A super crappy combo is being in labor while waiting and prepping for a c-section. I don’t recommend it. Elias wouldn’t wait, however, and once it was all over and he was finally in my arms I still couldn’t believe that it had happened and he was here and it was over. He was a healthy 8lbs 10oz and was graced with a full head of jet-black hair, for which I’m really proud. It still blows my mind that I made a baby with black-black hair. I’m amazed and delighted. We think he’s perfect and we love him so much we can’t even think straight.
There is so much more to say, but for now I am short on time and energy. I should be able to respond to everyone’s comments, so if you have questions, ask away!
