–I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We spent the day of with my in-laws and spend Black Friday celebrating with my mom’s side of the family at our house. My Dad cooked the turkey on the grill so it had a wonderful smoky flavor and I did the sides. Isobel had been wanting to help me do the cooking and to my surprised she prepped all the green beans by herself for the casserole, snapping off the ends, cutting them to the right length, and discarding the beans with blemishes. She helped prepare the mushrooms and bake the cornbread, too. It was wonderful to have help, but more wonderful to know that she wants to contribute and is big enough to do so. My Dad isn’t well, something I’ve not wanted to talk about, and my favorite part of Thanksgiving was being in the kitchen with him all day. It wasn’t like it used to be–it won’t ever be–but we made wonderful new memories.
–It’s December! Holy crap. How did that happen already? By the way, here is your seasonal reminder to stock up before the holidays: shampoo, toilet paper, cat food, prescriptions–whatever you need, go through your house and make sure you have a small supply of everything you need and shop now, that way you aren’t running out of something you need at Target or Costco right before Christmas. Even if you order stuff online, do it now! I get even try to get Rx refills done before it gets too late in December so I only have to leave my house if I really want to.
–Elias is only a year old and he climbs and runs and and I swear to god I’ve seen him correctly use a can opener. His babyhood was uncommonly short. At one point during Thanksgiving, we realized Elias wasn’t in the livingroom with the rest of the family, and I found him sitting at the computer attempting to finish a stray can of Coke my uncle had left on the desk. If he could act his age, that would be great.
–Isobel grows only more picky about food with age, but keep making her try bites of new or previously rejected foods anyway. She’s usually game to try as long as I don’t force it. She loved cornbread this year, but hated stuffing. I had her try something she didn’t like recently and she told me, “I tried that before, and it didn’t work out.” She has lost her other front tooth, making her little smile somehow even cuter.
