–Little Big was possibly going to be featured in Redbook this month, but it turns out I didn’t make the cut. Instead I learned that jeans aren’t flattering on me at all, probably. Oh well.
–Isobel has had a hard time with idioms. I have long said, “Sorry, Charlie!” reflexively but recently when I said it Isobel burst into tears because she thought I was calling her Charlie. In a mean way, I guess? No offense if your name is Charlie, she just very specifically wants to be Isobel. I have had to explain over and over that I’m not actually calling her Charlie–it’s just an expression. It has started to sink in, somewhat, because sometimes when she needs to express strong emotion to me she’ll say, NO WAY, CHARLIE!!
–Fall is the season of traditional family feasts and festivals. Last week we went to the Greek Food Festival and had a giant Chinese feast for my Grandma’s 97th birthday, and this weekend we went to a spaghetti dinner and bingo fundraisers for the Soroptimist International. Our Grandma Marty is a member, and we love to get together with our friends the Waltons and my inlaws each year. This year, Isobel won the kids’ bingo and was given a giant basket of goodies that occupied her, Kingston, Elias and cousin Kai all night. Kingston won the bingo game last year, and Isobel again the year before that. We are very lucky, apparently! I won like six handmade treats from the dessert tray, so who is the real winner here? (It me.)
–Isobel has coaching me on how to make friends with a fellow school mom. “Ask her her name, then tell her yours. That’s how you make friends.”
–I was eligible for a new phone so I finally, finally updated my old phone that Val donated to me after my sweet iphone 6 was stolen last January. The phone has remarkably kept on trucking despite having multiple things wrong with it, and while I’m relieved to have a phone that works properly and can have more than two apps installed at a time, we aren’t done with the old phone yet. It has found new life as Isobel’s phone. Of course it’s not hooked up to any service, but it takes pictures and video, can run Netflix on our wifi, and has several Pokemon apps installed. She feels so grown up using it, and is thrilled to have a phone “just like Mama.”
–Isobel: “If I tell you a secret you can’t tell anyone. Not Dada, or Brother, or Ama. Not even (lowers voice to a whisper) —Facebook.”
–I’ve been having intense Baby Fever lately, worse than I had it even during the times I was actively trying to get pregnant. I can’t even see an infant without melting. Believe me, we are done for a myriad of reasons, but I can’t even look at baby photos of the kids now without drying a bit inside. Maybe it’s just because Elias is so grown up now. Maybe I really just wish Elias was small again. And less punchy.
–On Saturday we went with my parents’ to Macedo’s Mini Acres to visit their alpaca farm. We had such a great time, and I’m writing a post about it.
–I’ve still been struggling with my energy level and other Crohn’s complications. I appreciate everyone’s patience with emails and other messages!
–I’ve been working on my Thrifty Halloween and DIY Costumes boards on Pinterest lately. If you need inspiration, check it out! I’ve also started some crochet, embroidery, kitchen, and of course, bento boards.
–Anthony had to work a few towns a way earlier in the week, and as he was leaving Isobel shouted, “Bye, Daddy! Don’t let strangers get bad drugs on you!”
