–It’s been another eventful week here at Casa Castillo. We’re all still adjusting to Elias’ giant cast arm. Our friend Dave decorated it with the best tattoo ever while he was over for D&D. Poor guy is still constantly fussy and very clingy (Elias, I should say, not Dave, though maybe Dave, too–I’d have to ask Stef). There’s lost of tears, interspersed with smiles and giggles, like a sudden rainstorm that brews in the middle of an otherwise sunny day. He still has a very hard time getting up from a laying position, and I can see him screaming at his cast arm in frustration. He’s also getting molars at the same time. By rights he should be a beast, but he’s not. He’s still a sweet guy, just a sweet guy whose dealing with a nearly useless fiddler crab arm at the moment.
–Isobel starts first grade in a month and although I know the oppressive heat is here to stay for another three months at least, it feels like the vacation part of summer is nearly over. We’ve been trying to keep up her skills by trips to the library for reading books, educational computer programs, and activities like writing letters to her pen pal, Jenn. One of the books she’s been reading is about a naughty dog, and the boy in the book at one point says, “Dumb dog!” She isn’t familiar with that word, and tends to guess the word based on context instead of sounding it out. When she came to that part, she looked at me and guessed, “Is it ‘Damn dog?'”
–We had a fan-freaking-tastic mail day thanks to Val and her Project Tiara. You might remember Val because she saved the goddamn day by sending me her old phone when my brand-new iphone 6 was stolen, just one month after I received it as a Christmas present from Anthony. I am still using it, because things with my health have been so crazy that I keep putting it off in favor of putting out fires. She promised a package full of goodies would also be sent, which was totally unnecessary but very appreciated, especially by Isobel, who hugged the package when she heard who it was from. Inside was not one but two tiaras, which is a good thing because otherwise I would get none. Isobel immediately claimed the cat ear-shaped one but I plan to take a photo wearing it sometime when she’s off with Grandma. Though how perfect does she look in it? Elias was not to be left out of the coronation. The package also contained a bunch of little goodies and treats, including a small stuffed unicorn that Isobel named True Magic Is Real, or Neeeeeneeeeneeeee, which is how you say her name in Unicorn.
–Yesterday was shot day again, stomach this time, and it went a lot better. I’m feeling some side effects today, but it is worth it. The day after the fair my body hurt, but I was not bed ridden. That is amazing. I am a little worried, though. As someone who is taking powerful injections to suppress her immune system, the ER is probably the most dangerous place I could have gone.
Breaking news: Literally this time. My poor boy.
