— I’m so late with this week’s Snapshot, it’s next week already. But, I had a good reason. Well, a terrible reason, and I’m glad it’s behind us. We hadn’t been home a full 24 hours before he made a beeline for the step stool again, which was put away immediately this time.
— The county fair has begun and yesterday, in dire need of a pick-me-up after the brutal week, we spontaneously decided to go. It was only supposed to be in the low 90s and it was our first free Saturday in awhile, so it was perfect. Post coming soon.
— Whenever we go out people remark on Elias’ cast. A baby with a cast is about the saddest thing ever. So many people just shrug and say, “That’s a boy for you!” I really wonder how people would react if he were a girl. Maybe I would get more blame. Since he’s a boy I get a lot of knowing looks and understanding smiles.
— I briefly mentioned this, but my little nephew also broke a bone just about a week before Elias broke his. He also ended up at Madera’s Children’s Hospital. Over the phone my MIL remarked, “Two grandsons down in two weeks!” Poor kids.
— Last week we celebrated our fifth annual Christmas in July. What started as a way for my friends Ellen and Ivan to practice their holiday dinner skills has turned into a holiday of getting together with friends around a groaning table piled high with an indulgent feast. I am always amazed the the sheer number of dishes and the work that must be involved. All those hours of prep and it is gone within a half hour. This year I left with a bag of clothes and toys Ellen’s boys had outgrown and together with the feast it really did feel like Christmas! Thanks again, guys. Christmas in July is my favorite summer holiday.
–Elias weathered his second Independence Day fireworks well as long as he could sit on my lap the entire time. And I mean the entire time. I was not allowed to get up for any reason, not even if Anthony was holding him. Sometimes, only mommy will do.
–If you are local you must try Oak Barrel Creamery. They make their ice creams on-site and they are amazing and incredibly affordable. This is not an ad, although I’d be happily spread the word in exchange for free ice cream. Anthony ordered the patriot ice cream, which was white horchata ice cream with blueberries and strawberries mixed in and it was crazy good. My favorite is probably their strawberry-berry.

Parents claim McDonald’s new Minions toys are dropping F-bombs. Isobel did not get this Minion. I call bullshit.
Why babies in medieval paintings look like ugly old men. Seriously, they are fucking terrifying.
This is a perfect gif. Tough as nails.
Scrapbook: Gloomy Park Playdate. Elias’ first swing! Kingston and Isobel hugged a lot.
LBK: Picnic in Daisy Park. We take three kids to daisy park and Isobel refused to change out of her SpiderGirl costume.
Scrapbook: Waterpark/Splashpad. Lots of watching and lounging and wearing of ladybugs.
