–It’s the New Year and I’m already behind on things here at Little Big, but I’m not sorry because I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes. I’ve been working for weeks now on a shop overhaul and I’m getting several posts prepped to go back to a regular posting schedule. I have nearly a dozen posts in the works and more in various stages of production. I still plan on eventually putting up my yearly Best Of posts for 2014 sometime early this year, too. Elias is at his most mobile stage and he’s like a search-and-destroy missile let loose on the environment. If he can’t find a way to break it, he will find a way to harm himself with it, or die trying. Also the poor lamb is teething, so in addition to near constant monitoring, he’s off and on a big ball of fuss. He sounds exactly like this cat. It’s all worth it though, because he said his first word the other day, and wouldn’t you know, it’s “Mama.” There’s a lot going on around here, and soon you’ll be able to see the fruits of my labor. Thanks for hanging in there through the gaps in my posts!
–I was watching Miss Fisher Mysteries the other night when I realized that Stef and I should become lady detectives. What would make more sense than two chronically ill ladies solving crimes while wearing fabulous vintage clothes. Of course Stef might be confined to a wheelchair and I might have two children and various cats stuck to me at all times, but I’m telling you, we’d make great detectives. Provided all the crime happened in our living room. Because, you know. Chronically ill and covered in young children. When I told Anthony of our plan he got very excited. “Does this mean I have to start committing crimes in our living room?” he said. “Because I will.”
–I had a dream Matthew McConaughey went on TV specifically to apologize for those car commercials.
–At Isobel’s request I managed to make her a Pichu toy and now she’s convinced I need to open up an etsy shop where I only make Pokemon toys. She thinks I should call it, “The Kids’ Aisle.” Considering it took me a thousand hours to make Pichu and I’m generally morally opposed to all Pokemon after 151, oh and it’s totally illegal from a copyright standpoint, it’s not going to happen. Though Anthony and I did find several fun Pokemon knock offs at the flea market that I could try to make. Lectric Mouse, anyone?
–Isobel has been saying “No fair!” a lot lately. For example, I was reading her a book about our solar system and when I told her that people have landed on the moon she immediately shouted, “No fair! I never get to go to the moon!”
–I am still wearing the glasses of a 1910 general store clerk until next week sometime due to my glasses mishap. I’m bummed about the broken pair–I really liked them–but I am so looking forward to my new glasses. I of course had to have an eye exam and during which the doctor asked me if noticed any changes in my vision. As it so happened, I had. For the last two-ish months I’ve found it difficult to read text on my phone for extended periods of time without removing my glasses. He asked how long this has been occurring and I thought about it. Two months? Had it been longer? I finally told him I had turned 35 in October and to mark my date of decline there.
–I got to watch Kingston last week to cover a gap in childcare while his parents work, and it was so much fun but it royally kicked my ass to watch all three kids at the same time. And this was with Anthony at home to help me. My hat’s off to those of you with three or more kids. You guys are crazy heroic.
–My NYE was really great. I’m still processing all the photos I took that night because there are so many, which is always a good thing. We started the evening with a family party and ended up ringing in the new year with our friends who are like family. I have been overly anxious about the future lately but being around so many familiar faces gave me a sense of peace.
