Snapshot 8.07.13

August 7, 2013 by Carrie Anne 8 Comments

– I suppose it’s normal for family to have nicknames for each other. Isobel has started calling me “Miss Meems.” I don’t know what it means, I don’t know where she got it. I think it’s something that she made up. First she started calling me “Mee Mee” and that somehow morphed into “Miss Meems.”

– Isobel has really been enjoying the visit from Auntie T. She thinks every night is a sleepover. Which I guess it is, especially since we let Isobel cuddle in the living room with a blanket and a pillow near her auntie while we watch movies and eat ice cream. Besides movies we’ve been watching our staple, nature programming on Netflix. Speaking of, you might want to skip Raccoon Nation if you have sensitive little viewers. It was a great program but they are such a nuisance in Japan that they’ve hired a scientist full-time to trap raccoons and put them down. Like she actually says, “My job is to kill as many raccoons as possible.” Which I get! They are destroying their national treasures! But that part might be really tough for a kid to watch, so be forewarned.

– I’ve tried but I just don’t have a lot to say today. It’s a shame because writing these Snapshot posts is usually so fun that I look forward to it every week. Right now I’m tense with the uncertainty of our lives. Anthony and I have been constantly talking and planning out different directions to go from here and we’re realizing how few options we really have. Some of them are not very pleasant. Anthony’s been busting his ass off with research and interviews and applications. I’m hanging in there, we both are, but the tension and anxiety are taking its toll. We don’t sleep very well. I’ve been focusing on enjoying time with friends and family and talking with Anthony to gather the information to make some hard decisions. Any spare good thoughts you might have would be appreciated.

Scrapbook: Sunflower Seeds. The fruits of our labors.

Follow Friday: Guest Photographer Keli Hoskins. Keli is a brilliant photographer.

Reader Question: What do you want to impart to Isobel? Some thoughts on depression, anxiety and kids.

Recipe: Panzanella. An Italian told me this is right on the money.

Scrapbook: The River. I never want to leave. I always want to return.

Guerrilla Cartographer Maps: Hidden Worlds of Cupcakes, Sex, and Doggy Day Care. Via @ispinyarn

Camera Sutra: Illustrated Twisted Photography Positions. (I’ve done all of these.)

More Infomercial Gifs. “To be fair, though, that is kind of what it looks like when I try to use plastic wrap.” I will never get tired of these. Via @chickenscottpie

Auto Correct, the Language of the Future. Little did I know that we have only just begun.

Little Big Site Statistics. I am afraid for some of the people on the internet.

Thrifted Home Tour: My Closet. If I found a skeleton in there I’d use it as a coat rack.

Thrifted Home Tour: The Bedroom. The magic happens here, and by magic I mean we somehow fit two grown adults, a preschooler, and several cats in a queen sized bed.

I answer a reader question once a month. Do you have a question for me? I’d love to answer it! If it’s a short one I’ll answer it here. If it’s more complicated, I’ll give it its own post. You can leave your question in the comments, @-reply me on twitter, email it to me at alittlebigblog@gmail.com or send me a messenger pigeon. Don’t actually do the last one, though. My cat will eat it. Be sure to let me know if you want me to include your name and link to your blog or shop. Anonymous questions are fine, too.

    Carrie-

What is your husband’s background? My company currently has several positions open in the California area.

      Hi Margaret,

He has a degree in math and job experience as an insurance adjustor.

What is the name of your company? Also, California is a huge state. We are looking to stay in the same area or move to Sacramento.

      Thanks for thinking of us.

Could your husband tutor for the time being? Math is pretty hard, especially for people in the central valley.

He could, but if he needs to get a stopgap job temporarily we have a couple of options.
