– Anthony’s position was eliminated and he will be laid off in June. The wave of uncertainly we’ve been riding the past few months has finally broke, and I see nothing but larger, scarier waves in our future.
– Isobel and I have been working in the garden nonstop. She loves it and each morning she begs to go outside all throughout breakfast. Last Sunday we stayed in the garden almost all day and the two of us planted tomatoes under the fat disk of a spring moon. I’ve taught her all the names of all the plants in the garden, including the weeds. I remember my parents teaching me plant names and though it didn’t help me get into college it did impress upon me the belief that nature is important and wonderful.
– While we were working outside I noticed Isobel tying two buckets together and arranging them carefully on some lawn furniture. When I asked her what she was doing she replied that she was making a trap for mice, a la Survivor Man.
– Last weekend we visited the Pacific Pinball Museum in honor of my friend Scott’s birthday. It was awesome. Anthony and I were hoping to find a Star Trek machine, but instead we found an old school vintage Doctor Who one that shouted EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! in the final round. When Stefanie heard that noise she turned to me and said, “Why is Doctor Who making that noise?!”

I answer a reader question once a month. Do you have a question for me? I’d love to answer it! If it’s a short one I’ll answer it here. If it’s more complicated, I’ll give it its own post. You can leave your question in the comments, @-reply me on twitter, email it to me at email@example.com or send me a messenger pigeon. Don’t actually do the last one, though. My cat will eat it. Be sure to let me know if you want me to include your name and link to your blog or shop. Anonymous questions are fine, too.
