Thrifty Holidays: Halloween Decorations

18 Oct

Hold on to your pumpkins! Fall is here and we’ve officially decorated for Halloween. I used much of the same 95% thrifted decor as I did last year, but we used it differently. Isobel is so very excited to decorate that every morning when she wakes up she still asks me, “Mama, can we decorate for Halloween?!” If she had her way we’d be wearing fall garlands like feather boas and carrying decorative gourds as purses.

I purposely waited for a weekend to decorate so that we could do it as a family, and my favorite part (besides spending an hour vacuuming up festive leaves Isobel crumbled everywhere) was decorating her bedroom. She is as much in love with the skulls as she was last year and so she gathered them all up and brought them to her bedroom to have… wait for it… a tea party. With skulls. Imagine five shrunken brown heads sitting on a pink blanket having tea with Isobel and you have a typical day in house.

Now, to get  some pumpkins up in here and my fallboner is complete.

Let’s be honest. If you had your way every day would be decorative gourd purse day.

We have the same glass pumpkin! It is actually our year-round candy dish, because, well, we like candy and never had the will to put it away. Also, I think there’s got to be a band out there just waiting to name an album Skull Tea Party.

Pumpkins are awesome. They deserve to be out year-round.

Tea party with skulls! You must be a proud mama. It really is the kid’s innocent excitement that makes the holidays special, and I miss when this season had a magic that couldn’t be penetrated by all the things to do. I miss the construction paper fall leaves in elementary school! What a nerd! :D

Your decor is beautiful, I especially love the creativity behind those spider webs!

      That’s Isobel’s favorite, too.

I also loved the skull under glass (we even have a cheese dish that looks exactly like that one, so score on being prepared for decorating!) The spider rings on doilies are brilliant and definitely my favourite part. I am not a seasonal decorating type but thrifting some vintage doilies would be fun.

I’m constantly on the lookout for cheese domes now.
