Thrifted Closet: Favorite Sundress

Since I’m not the only one in the family with a closet full of thrifted clothes I decided to start including Anthony and Isobel in the Thrifted Closet mix, too, as they live with me and are my hapless victims. Isobel in particular has the most thrifted and hand me down closet of all of us. Some times she’ll get something new if one of her grandmas or aunts feels so inspired, but aside from a few pants purchased last year she really has her needs met without buying anything new.

This dress is her current favorite summer dress, and mine, too. It was my favorite summer dress twenty years ago when it was in heavy rotation in my own closet. God bless the hoarding tenancies of my family who saved many of my best clothes and toys for Isobel. This dress is perfect–not only does it have enough pink to satisfy Isobel’s insatiable pinklust, but it has other colors in it, too, which Mama really enjoys. Not that I mind my retinas being burned out by a constant barrage of pink, no siree, but it is nice to remember that other lovely colors still exist. It fits her really well even though it’s a 4T, and I’m hoping that next year she can wear it with a pair of shorts or leggings underneath. The fabric is terry cloth, which breathes so nicely in the heat. If she had a wardrobe full of ten of these such dresses, neither of us would complain if she wore them exclusively all summer.

While I was taking these photos she kept saying, “Wait Mama. I need to brush my hair to be lovely.”

Isobel accessorized this outfit with a pink shower cap which she has no idea is not an actual hat. I bought this at the dollar store but she has yet to let me use it.
