Thrifty Giving: Lupe’s Present
24 May
In addition to making my lovely friend Lupe some magnetic recipe clips for her birthday I wanted to give her some thrifted goodies, too. Partially because my vintage stash is overflowing and partially because I just found this 1960s wrap skirt while thrifting and I thought it would look beautiful on her. Wrap skirts are great to give as presents because you don’t have to agonize about whether or not it will fit. I’d been saving this butterfly candy dish since we visited them last year. I noticed that Lupe loves jewelry and the best place to store it I think is in vintage glassware.
Another bonus of the wrap skirt? It serves both as present and as wrapping. The butterfly dish is safely inside the skirt, secured with a contrasting black ribbon.
Instead of a bow I just added the recipe clip to the top.

YES PLEASE
i think this is a wonderful gift idea. very green, very insightful, and very tailored to the individual. beats the heck out of a gift card.
Thank you so much! I think giftcards have their place, but this is a great way to give something tangible and lovely.
You’re so thoughtful. I think I really need to get on the thrifted gift train. Maybe next Xmas I’ll copy you!

I’d love it if you did! And I’d want you to post the results, naturally. I think this is a great way to find something unique, affordable and sustainable. Though make sure you ask people first! Not everyone is thrilled with secondhand gifts.
Well they all got handmade ones last year so I think they’re used to my weirdness ;D
